Raging Wildfire in Texas and Other Natural Distasters Test GOP Anti-Government Rhetoric

As I read news about the raging wildfires blazing out of control in Texas, as well as the many natural disasters like earthquakes, floods, and hurricanes that have ravaged parts of America in recent months, I can't help to wonder how the various states that are impacted plan to repair the damages - at a time when many of them are broke. The GOP have basically indicated that any federal assistance is Big Government hand out. Their mantra is limited to no goevernment involvment in the affairs of their respective states. But the fact is they all accept federal disaster assistance and aid. That is government.

Most of the resources needed to fight such disasters come mostly from the federal government. Just like the confusion created with respect to entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare -- some recipients buy into the anti-government rhetoric, by somehow, conveniently, believing that those programs are not a form of social welfare programs. The firefighter and the police are government officials. The funding that keeps them available come in large part from the federal government. So to Rick Perry and the rest of the so-called "anti-government" hypocrites - enjoy your socialism - even if you refuse to call it that!!!
