Why Bernie Sanders Will Win the Democratic Primary and Presidency

The is by far the strangest presidential campaign in modern American political history.  The battle will come down to the two 'Ultimates'.  Donald Trump for the Republicans versus Bernie Sanders for the Democrats.  Mr. Trump is by all accounts the ultimate capitalist, and Senator Sanders is a self proclaimed socialist.  The two men have the passion of their respective bases and are working hard to expand from those base of supporters to independents and crossover voters.

Although the mainstream media has been fascinated by Mr. Trump, who is a television personality and former host of The Apprentice, the real drama primary race is on the Democratic side.  Talk about a slap to the political establishment?  Yes, it is occurring on the Republican side as well with Donald Trump; but not to the degree and,  the ninja style with which Bernie Sanders has taken over the soul of the Democrats.  He may not be the best looking or the youngest candidate, however, this the year of  "Authenticity".  Both sides feel let down by their party.  Obama and the Democrats did not go far enough to the left after eight years of Bush so the base largely saw a continuation of that previous administration's policies; including the "Individual Mandate" of the Affordable Care Act, which was a Republican idea, until Obama proposed it, of course.

Progressives were promised "Single Payer" European style guaranteed healthcare for all; a policy advocated by Bernie Sanders for many years, and is a central part of his current campaign platform.  Hilliary Clinton has attacked Sanders for this; which is a huge mistake because Healthcare was the biggest issue in 2008, 2012, and will be so again with Bernie Sanders' promise to deliver the one thing the base wants so badly that a candidate who is beholden to Wall Street cannot deliver -- Universal Healthcare guaranteed by the government.  Yes jobs matter, but the nation's employment situation is getting better.  However, millions of American's are still without basic healthcare and no one likes being required to buy it and add money to the insurance industry's greed.  The betrayal cut deep.

That is why when Secretary Clinton recently attacked Sanders for his position on healthcare, she was largely laughed at by the base and most journalists.  It also helped Sanders raise a boatload of money.    Additionally, with respect to income inequality, the issue has been a Sanders' one for his entire political life, so he comes of as authentic and speaks passionately about it to anyone who will listen.   There's a reason that Wall Street has recovered and indeed thrived since the Great Recession, but ordinary American's are no better off -- because as Senators Sanders and Elizabeth Warren point out "The Game is Rigged" against working people and the poor.

The fear among the liberals is that Hillary Clinton and the centrist Democratic coalition that her and her husband champion along with Barack Obama, will sell them out even more.  In short, there is virtually no difference between Hillary Clinton and any Republican with respect to policies that benefit the lower 99%.  Been there, done that.  So now their hearts are with a true leftist and an independent socialist -- the ultimate liberal.  One who will at-least fight for them and not merely use them as a pawn to win office!  #Feelthebern
