Obama at Risk of Alienating His Base - But Which Base?

I am an Obama fan. But frankly speaking, the man seems to lack conviction. I always defended his "grown-up" approach to governing. However - at some point - a president has to stand for something; he needs to take a position on some policy issue that all will be able to say - "on this - Obama will not budge!" When you are up against a solid opposition, one must stand for something.

Lately - and unfortunately for this and his many supporters, Obama lacks substance and the strength to command respect from his adversaries. Sure - he has achieved extraordinary military and foreign policy success of late, however, the America public is not focused on overseas matters - because of the economic pain they are feeling at home - and in that arena numero uno - Hope has given way to Fear and Anxiety. Many Americans have lost their homes, jobs, and Dreams - as they live a genuine American Nightmare.

Where does president Obama stand? With the Middle class? He has basically continued the Bush policies; and in some cases - raised Bush one. I here the talking heads going on about Obama alienating his base. Which one? The recent fight over the debt ceiling is a prime example of a weak president getting bullied.
Also, he has been forced to side with Corporations and polluters against his own EPA and the general public well being. And for fear of upsetting his opponents - he has failed to lead on issues such as immigration and worker rights. He agreed to extend the Bush tax cuts and got nothing of note in return. If his base is supposedly liberal or progressive - then he has failed them - for SURE!

Sadly, Obama is playing to a crowd who will never vote for him. Instead of fighting for those who placed such hopes in him - thereby his historic election, he has taken 'compromise' too far. When your opponent knows that you always will take a bad deal over no deal - then that is what you will and have gotten. If only your base was Republican, you would win - hands down. So long as the GOP could get over the Kenyan thing.

Mr. President - please MAN-UP!
